Quiet Corners and Low Volume: How We Set Up the Limitless Room

October 6, 2026

Three people seen from behind sit on blue mats in front of a curtained window: two children in black Flow Limitless ATHLETE tees, one wearing over-ear ear defenders, and an instructor in a black Flow Limitless COACH tee, in a softly lit, empty room at Flow Academy BJJ Indio.

It’s the first week of October in Indio. Afternoons are still warm, and kids come in from school to a room that’s cool, bright and, depending on the day, loud. Flow Limitless started Thursday, October 1, and the question we hear most now is about the room itself: how loud is it, how bright, and can it be adjusted? Here’s what we do.

What We Leave Out

Music in the Limitless room is off, or low enough to talk over. There’s no whistle and no counting reps out loud across the room. Coach Zaide gives cues at a normal volume from close by, often with a hand signal alongside, and she shows a movement before asking anyone to try it.

A Quiet Spot at the Edge of the Mat

There’s space at the edge of the mat where a student can sit and still see everything. A student can go there at the start of class, in the middle, or not at all. A parent can sit with them, and the group keeps going. Nobody is asked to explain, and a coach checks in when the student is ready to come back.

A Heads-Up Before It Gets Loud

Some games are louder than others: pads slapping, a few kids laughing at once, a crash pad hitting the floor. Before one of those starts, a coach tells the group what the game is and what it’s going to sound like. Anyone who’d rather watch that one from the edge can, and plenty do.

Headphones, Ear Defenders and Comfort Objects

Students are welcome to wear their own headphones or ear defenders in class, and to keep a comfort object close by. Shoes come off at the mat; grip socks are fine. The room lights stay on at their regular level. If the glare from the front windows is a problem for a student, we can set up their spot on the shaded side of the mat.

Students who use a wheelchair train with us in Indio. A chair doesn’t roll onto a padded mat, which is a two-minute logistics conversation, not a reason to sit out. Some students transfer onto the mat, some work at its edge with a coach, and nobody is asked to leave their chair.

Tell Us Before You Come

Call or text us at (951) 337-3781 and tell us what sounds, lights, touch or transitions are a lot for your child, and what they like to have with them. We would much rather hear it on the phone than find it out on the mat. Parents and caregivers are welcome to stay and watch the whole class.

The Practical Part

Flow Limitless at Indio is for ages 6–17, Thursdays 3:15–4:00 PM, once a week, with Coach Zaide, at 42425 Jackson Street, Suite C112. First class is free. After that it’s $150 a month, month-to-month, with 15% off a second child in the same household and 20% off a third. A child with a disability is always welcome in our standard kids and youth classes at the standard price, with reasonable accommodations at no extra charge.

If your child would rather see the room before stepping onto the mat, come and watch a Thursday from the side first. The rest of the detail lives on the Flow Limitless program page.
